July 2003 The Summer Fair
Another great time was had at this years Summer Fair. Set up in Henrietta Park we had a bouncy castle, face painting, the fire engines, hot dog and burger refreshments, a treasure hunt, fancy dress competition and we were entertained by the Magician and his magic wand. GReat!

Check out the pics here.
April 2003 Bonnie Flys by!
Just a quickie to let you know what's been going on in the playclub lately! The kids had a visit from Bonnie the bird and her handler Dave Hickory who entertained them with fantastic magic tricks. Tara braved the beak and tickled Bonnie's chin just as Bath's Evening Chronicle photographer Anna Barclay happened to be passing! Mouse over the image for a bigger picture.

October 2002 More New Staff!
Just a quickie to say hi to four new members of staff. As Rachel in the Playclub Club has moved on to pastures green, Ruth has picked up the torch and become the new Playclub Co-ordinator. At her side stands Kathy Gillon who is now our new Deputy Co-ordinator. A warm welcome also to Anna Jaques our newest full-time Nursery Assistant, and Jo Bice and Debbie White who have joined us part-time in the same capacity. Blimey are there any kids in this centre?!!

October 2002 Police Arrest Sally
No not really. Avon police constables visit the children in the nursery, and establish themselves as thoroughly nice and approachable people, who are willing to catch burglars, give you directions to the sweet shop and press your palm!

August 2002 Ofsted Inspection Passed with Flying Colours!
Ofsted (Office For Standards in Education) is the government body which inspects, among other institutions, Day Care facilities to insure compliance with the law and best practices. There a 14 areas or 'Standards' which must be met before a centre can be registered, these are:

  Suitable Personnel
Organisation
Care, Learning & Play
Physical Environment
Equipment
Safety
Health
Food & Drink
Equal Opportunities
Special Needs (including special educational needs and disabilities)
Behaviour
Working partnership with parents and Carers
Child Protection
Documentation

For more information visit the Ofsted website. The Mews passed in all fourteen areas and has therefore met the National Standard for full day care. Well done everybody!

June 2002 Powerpoint rears its ugly head!
The webnanny has encountered the usual difficulties in delegation. This edition of the Mews News has been produced in Microsoft's PowerPoint, making it difficult to simply drop into our nursery web template. So I have reformatted it into an Acrobat Reader .pdf document, and exported it as web page from Powerpoint. So here are the files to download if you didn't receive a copy from the centre in person.

In the mean time...
Here are some of the most important aspects of it.

Nursery Inspection
We are anticipating a visit by an Ofsted official sometime in June. Ofsted have increased the scope and rigour of their inspection this time around, but we are confident that we are, as ever, more than ready and are looking forward to a positive report.

Can You Help?
We really do need parents who are able to offer their services as members of the committee and at least some who are able to take on key positions. At the moment only one post, - the minute’s secretary is held by a parent. Either a member of the hotel staff or a member of the original steering committee holds all other positions. In the past we have had excellent treasurers from the parents, and there is a desperate need for some one to compile this news sheet every month or so.
